The Vision: Bringing AI to Luxury E-Commerce
At Mejuri, a direct-to-consumer fine jewelry brand known for disrupting traditional luxury, performance marketing is a core growth driver. Our challenge? Scaling paid search globally across North America, Europe, and Australia—without compromising efficiency, brand equity, or customer intent targeting.
With Google rolling out cutting-edge AI tools, I saw an opportunity to create a global search strategy fueled by automation, data signals, and machine learning—delivering relevance at scale while maximizing return on ad spend (ROAS).
The Strategy: AI-Driven Paid Search at Scale
Here’s how I applied AI to build a global paid search engine that adapts, learns, and grows:
1. Performance Max Campaign Architecture by Region
I restructured the entire paid search strategy around Google’s Performance Max (PMax) framework—customized by country. This allowed us to:
-
Capture upper- and lower-funnel intent in one campaign
-
Use real-time user signals for creative rotation and bid adjustments
-
Localize copy and promotions based on language, gifting trends, and inventory
2. Dynamic Feed Optimization Using AI Signals
Rather than static product listings, we integrated smart shopping feeds driven by:
-
AI tagging of top-performing keywords
-
Trend-sensitive product highlights (e.g., “Best Gifts for Him” during Father’s Day)
-
Automated A/B testing of image, title, and price variants
This directly improved click-through rates (CTR) and conversion efficiency.
3. Predictive Bidding and Audience Modeling
By layering Google’s Smart Bidding with our proprietary audience segments, we could:
-
Predict buyer readiness across devices and locations
-
Prioritize high-margin products in key geographies
-
React to in-session signals such as page scroll depth and cart abandonment
As a result, we achieved above-benchmark ROAS in the US and Canadian markets, with double-digit efficiency gains in Europe.
Why This Award Matters: AI Is the New Creative Director
Winning the Google Ads Innovation Award is not just a personal milestone—it validates a new model for performance marketing. In an era where AI is automating optimization and personalization at scale, marketers must evolve from operators to architects.
The key takeaway? AI isn’t replacing human strategy—it’s amplifying it. I designed the systems, structured the data, and guided the creative frameworks. AI handled the rest—better, faster, and more efficiently than ever before.
My Advice for Marketers Embracing AI in Google Ads
If you’re considering incorporating AI into your paid strategy, here are three tips based on my journey:
-
Structure first, scale second. A solid account architecture allows AI to do its job. Poorly built campaigns confuse the algorithm.
-
Let go of perfection. Test. Learn. Automate. Then test again. AI thrives in dynamic environments.
-
Partner with product and brand teams. AI doesn’t know your brand voice—you do. Use that edge.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Paid Search Is Predictive
This award has energized me to keep pushing the envelope in digital advertising. Whether through semantic search enhancements, AI-led merchandising, or cross-channel attribution modeling, I believe the best of performance marketing is still ahead.
To those who are testing, building, and experimenting in this space: keep going. The intersection of creativity and machine learning is where the future is being shaped.
